Having stopped at this hotel before in the summer and knowing it was to a good standard I booked again for 5 days in December. This really is a good hotel. I was amazed that it was so quiet. I would have thought that people would have flocked here from Istanbul and Izmir for get away weekends and for short breaks.
If there are any ex pats reading this who want to get away from the city for a while then try this hotel. This is the real Turkey where people are very friendly and the countryside and beaches are unspoiled. In the middle of winter the rooms are well heated and everything functions as smoothly as in mid season.
My special thanks go to Ersin and Tuncay for their outstanding levels of service and friendly personalities and to Zafer the cook who conjured up the most amazing Turkish cuisine which was consistently good every time. What a great team. Thank you guys!
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. It is right on the sandy beach, near to Ezine, in close proximity to some seriously interesting archaeological sites such as Troy and within easy day visit to Canakkale. Nearby lies the beautiful village of Assos ( Behramkale ) and a trip to Bayramic where the large reservoir dam and the surrounding countryside is of significant beauty is definitely not to be missed.

This is one of the most established hotels on the Tavakli Iskele coast road. It has recently had some fairly extensive renovation and changes to the restaurant area. The hotel is well maintained with its own pool and beautiful gardens.
It is right on a sandy beach. There is ample parking and friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very clean and well furnished. You know that you are in good hands here and when you book your reservation you can opt for full board. The restaurant facilties are excellent. The hotel has its own beach with loungers and a bar. Located opposite the beach on the Black Sea, in an area surrounded by restaurants, this hotel with a friendly atmosphere is one km from the D010 highway and 5 km from the historical Genoese Castle. The no-frills rooms with balconies include internet access, flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. Some rooms have beach views. Buffet breakfast is free. A cozy restaurant with sea view and fireplace, a snack bar with a terrace on the beach, an outdoor pool with sunbathing area, a private beach area with parasols and sun loungers are among the facilities offered.
The Uzunhan Hotel is situated about 3km from the town centre and there is very little nearby in the way of shops or restaurants. There is plenty of parking spaces in the road in front of the hotel but no on site parking as such.
Check in was straight forward and efficient and the staff friendly and accommodating. Rooms to the front of the hotel get a great view of the sea and islands but have no balcony and rooms to the rear of the hotel get a large balcony overlooking the pool. The rooms are adequate in size with bathrooms fitted to a high standard.
The rooms have complimentary slippers, a fridge and air conditioning. There is no lift so you have to walk up thte flights of stairs. Might be tricky for an elderly person so be sure to book ground or first floor if this applies. The rooms are clean and tidy but let down by the lack of attention to detail. There was no toilet paper in the room.
The main light was not working and neither was the hair dryer. The base of a smoke alarm was still screwed to the ceiling but the smoke alarm was missing. Breakfast is served between 08:30 – 10:30 am but it was all a bit hit and miss. Bread arrived quite late, people coming to breakfast had no idea the cutlery was in a drawer and although the variety of food provided was excellent the attention to detail was lacking here too.
All in all this is a good basic hotel and more than adequate for a stop over. It is reasonably priced and I would recommend it. I would have given it 4 stars if things had been a little more professional.
The Willmont Hotel in Balikesir is a large impressive establishment. There is ample parking outside and a nice reception area when you walk in. There is also a restaurant on site. The rooms are spacious and exceptionally clean. The staff are polite and helpful. We loved everything about this hotel. The breakfasts were amazing too.

Uygulama Hotels are operated by the government on a commercial basis. They are used to train students wanting to start a career in the tourism sector and also frequented by teachers and civil servants. Many tour companies use them.
They offer a good alternative to mainstream hotels and are generally very well managed. The Bornova Uygulama Hotel in Izmir is situated within walking distance of the large IKEA outlet and Bornova Forum shopping mall ( 15 minute walk). It is housed within the confines of a High School so drive carefully when you are coming and going by vehicle.
There is ample parking near the hotel. Access for the disabled might be a bit tricky since although there is a ramp it is very long and steep. Once inside the hotel there is a spacious lobby and well maintained Reception area. The staff are friendly and efficient and you are soon on your way to your room.
The price we paid for a double room with breakfast for two was 140 Turkish Lira ( £23.52 ). This is exceptionally good value for money for the quality of the room that we got. The room was tastefully decorated in part wallpaper and paint. There is a fridge and Wi-Fi and a well equipped bathroom. There are no tea or coffee facilities and although the hotel does seem to offer drinks in the Reception area you are quite a distance from any shops if you just want something quickly.
The nearest place to eat or buy anything is the Bornova Forum. The breakfast here is very good. A great selection of cold continental breakfast but with boiled eggs or omlette style hot food too. A good selection of cheeses and tea or coffee available. The hotel is well run and clean. The beds are comfortable and you are pretty much guaranteed a good nights sleep here since there is not busy traffic outside to worry about.
The other advantage is that you are pretty near the outer ring road so if you are heading in and out of Izmir the location is good. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for the duration of your stay in Bornova, Izmir.
