Dupnisa Cave

Just 58 km from Kırklareli and 230 km from Istanbul, the Dupnisa Cave is a popular tourist destination in this area of Thrace. The cave complex consists of three inter connected caves on two levels. The original Bulgarian name Dupnitsa means hole. The approach to the cave through this beautiful Longoz forest national park is spectacular. During the summer months and weekends you are advised to get there early in the morning to avoid crowds. There is a small entrance fee.

This is the only cave in Thrace which is open to the public. It was opened in 2005 and each of the three caves are very different. You can see a range of stalactites, stalagmites and stalagnates of which some are a considerable size. The cave is the source of spring water that flows into the Rezve Creek. The upper cave is not open to the public and is home to around 60,000 bats.
