We’ve compared one of Turkey’s top supermarket chains with a major UK counterpart Sainsbury’s in order to see how everyday shopping stacks up this year. Many people have claimed that a typical shopping basket in Turkey has become more expensive than in the UK and Europe. While this can be true for certain items, such as large quantities of red meat or imported products, overall the prices remain broadly comparable with the UK. This weeks test gives the UK prices an advantage of being cheaper by £4.86.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a series of comparisons featuring different Turkish supermarkets to give you a clearer picture of what everyday shopping really costs in Turkey. We’ll also include fresh fruit and vegetable prices from local markets to complete the picture.
