Bandırma in the Balıkesir Province, used to be known as Panderma. The city is a busy ferry and cargo port with a vibrant commercial centre. There is a strong agricultural presence and cereals, wool, cattle, grain and various meats are produced in and around Bandırma. The mineral boracite is mined here too.
There is a long promenade along the seafront but no sandy beach. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes and also a number of good hotels. It is not a Touristic location as such due to the lack of any good beaches but nearby Erdek offers locals the chance to spend some time at the seaside.
There is a good archaeological museum in Bandirma although hardly any historic buildings in the city.
