There would appear to be some mixed reviews about this hotel but I can only comment on our own experience of this establishment. We caught the high speed ferry from Ayvalik to Mytilene and decided to spend the night in this busy port on Lesvos Island.
After walking along the sea front and having viewed a few hotels the Hotel Sappho caught our eye. The Reception and the hotel form part of a ground level small shopping mall so the lobby is small and contains a couple of chairs and the reception area. The lady we met was operating the hotel with her son and they were both very pleasant and cheerful and the mother managed to converse in English very well even though her son spoke English fluently.
One thing worth mentioning here. The Sappho Hotel is an old building. If you want nice spacious and modern luxury hotel accommodation then there are other hotels along the sea front that will charge you around 100 dollars or more for very comfortable rooms. At the Sappho Hotel you are paying 50 Euros ( £44.00 or 227 Turkish Lira ) for a double room which includes breakfast for two people. This is a very reasonable price for Lesvos Island. This is a budget hotel after all.
Our double room faced the harbour. It has a small balcony. There was a double bed and a TV and the bathroom. Everything worked. The weather was cold outside but the room was warm and cosy enough for an overnight stay. The location on the sea front is ideal since you walk out the door and you are in the centre of either the shopping district to the rear or the harbour to the front of the hotel.
Wi fi was provided which worked well and the breakfast was perfectly adequate for our needs. There is a selection of vegetables, eggs and ham and cheese, bread and cereals and tea and coffee etc. The restaurant itself is a little time capsule and very quirky. The marble chipped floors in the restaurant and hallways are very nice. This would have been quite grand in its hey day.
Would I stay here again? Yes I would. If you are on a budget and travelling as a single person or a couple then this hotel is a good choice for one or two nights.
This inexpensive restaurant along the main harbour sea front is absolutely outstanding in every respect. The meze is an absolute must and good enough for two people to have a bite to eat at lunchtime along with some local Ouzo.
The service, price and quality of the food served here is better than you would expect. We struggled to find anywhere that came close to this in terms of what is on offer on the menu and the prices that they charge.
Bu cok guzel bir restoran. Cani yakin personel, lezzetli yemek ve hesapli bir lokanta. Tavsiye ederim. Biz cok memnun kaldik. Lesvos genelikle pahali ama burasi hem geleneksel Yunan yemegi yapiyorlar, hemde Turkleri seviyorlar.
