Inside, the atmosphere was unlike anywhere else in the city. Travellers from across the world gathered to share stories, trade travel tips, and pin handwritten notes to a large noticeboard on the wall. These messages often sought travel companions, rides, or simple advice about crossing borders into Iran, Afghanistan, and beyond. The most famous of these routes involved the so-called Magic Bus, a cheap and loosely organised transport network that carried adventurous backpackers eastward, sometimes all the way to Kathmandu. Though times have changed, the Pudding Shop still stands as a living monument to that golden age of travel. Its walls now display old photographs, newspaper clippings, and letters from those who passed through decades ago, giving visitors a glimpse into an era when travel was slower, freer, and often unpredictable. The food has become more polished, the clientele more diverse, yet the spirit of camaraderie and curiosity remains.
